In June 2018, EPC got to travel to an exotic locale: we were in Mexico City exhibiting at Expo Pack, the show for packaging & processing in Mexico. National Sales Manager Dave Wilson and Business Development Manager Steve Dilts traveled down to Mexico from our Idaho headquarters. They had some help from sales people from our Mexico Distribution Partners, who worked the booth side-by-side with Dave and Steve.

During the show, we were approached by the owner of a firm representing an injection molding machine OEM. He came to our booth and showed us a photo on his cell phone: his customer had an Italian encoder on a machine that had failed. The machine was down. They needed a replacement. Fast. And they could not wait 6 weeks to get one from Italy. Steve told the customer, "Send me the photo. We can help."

The customer emailed Steve the photo, and Steve forwarded it to an EPC Technical Services team member, who accessed our extensive cross-reference files. "We have thousands of encoders in our cross-reference database, from dozens of different encoder manufacturers," explains Steve. "Our Tech Services dug into the archives and found the information on the part number supplied by the customer."

Within 30 minutes of showing Steve the photo, the customer received an email detailing our EPC cross-reference recommendation. We were able to configure a Model 58TP with the bore size, resolution, output, and waveform that perfectly matched the Italian encoder. The order was placed the same day the owner approached us, shipped out the next day, and the customer had it a few days later. Their machine was up and running within days, rather than the weeks it would have taken to get a replacement from Italy.

Once the customer received the encoder, the unit was promptly installed at their factory location in Guadalajara. Shortly after installation, the customer told us, “The encoder is working well. We will need more of these encoders, and some other models as well.”
