Since the NEMA design standard is applied uniformly by manufacturers, the task of retrofitting existing systems with improved feedback devices is simplified. EPC offers several encoder solutions with C-Face mounting surfaces.
The advantage of NEMA C-Face surfaces is that they provide a stable, secure and sealed mechanical interface between devices. Since the NEMA design standard is applied uniformly by manufacturers, the task of retrofitting existing systems with improved feedback devices is simplified. EPC offers several encoder solutions with C-Face mounting surfaces.
EPC's C-Face models incorporate a beneficial internal flex mount design that accommodates shaft run-out while maintaining critical alignment of the LED, sensor and code disk.
The disc, shaft collar, and bearing are affixed to a sturdy, yet flexible, disc-shaped membrane. The outer circumference of the membrane is attached to the external housing, which hosts the sensor and electronics. Shaft loads are absorbed by the membrane and are not transferred to the encoder bearings, or electronics, resulting in reliable feedback over the long-haul. For example, as a motor’s bearings begin to wear, shaft run-out and endplay increase.
Eventually, it’s possible for shaft run-out and endplay to be within motor specifications, yet beyond allowable limits for most encoders. The EPC solution minimizes this potential cause of failure. EPC C-face encoders also incorporate our Advanced Opto-ASIC circuitry, which supplies a clean signal with excellent noise immunity.
